The festival is organized by the Phobjikha Environment Management Committee (PEMC), a local group composed of elected local leaders (with a strong female component), Government representatives, business community representatives, monks and Royal Society for the Protection of Nature (RSPN) representative. The festival has become a part of the local culture in Phobjikha valley ever since it was first initiated by the RSPN in 1998.

Main Highlights of Bhutan Rhododendron Festival Tour

The three days Rhododendron festival is celebrated at Lampelri Botanical Park, which is about one and half hour drive from Thimphu en route to Punakha. Bhutan has over 46 different species of rhododendrons in the country. For nature and flower lovers, this is the perfect trip you can make best use of it. You can walk down the trail in the forest and enjoy the beauty of of wild rhododendrons that grows in abundance.

Weaving is the only dominated art of the women in Bhutan – they mostly weave the traditional dress called kira for woman and gho for man, however, new fashion trends are emerging rapidly. In this textile touring, witness the best-known Kishuthara weaving (multi-coloured silk patterning on a kira) in Khoma village in Lhuentse (Eastern Bhutan) and the famous Yathra weaving in Bumthang (Central Bhutan).
